Digital Infratech concludes Helios EOI and expands Titan Fibre Networks Download

News Summary:
  • Digital Infratech Expands the Scope of Titan Fibre Networks & Retains Helios Asset

An in-depth evaluation of the Helios digital infrastructure asset has led Digital Infratech to retain ownership and expand Titan Fibre Networks to focus on delivering dedicated dark fibre infrastructure solutions. The EOI process highlighted strong industry interest in the cable’s unique diversity and capacity, driving the decision to scale Titan Fibre Networks as a dedicated dark fibre infrastructure provider.

Simon O’Leary, Chief Executive Officer at Digital Infratech, announced today that Titan Fibre Networks - owner of the Helios cable network - will be expanded to assume full marketing, management, and operational responsibilities for the asset.

Following a comprehensive evaluation process, Titan Fibre Networks has been appointed to manage and expand the critical Helios infrastructure asset. Established to build and operate dark fibre networks across Australia, Titan Fibre Networks positions Helios as a cornerstone of its growing infrastructure portfolio. Complementing this, its sister company, Titan Telecoms, is one of Australia’s few pure optical wavelength providers with a self-maintained network, delivering high-performance metro and long-haul connectivity. Together, Titan Fibre Networks and Titan Telecoms offering an integrated suite of infrastructure and service solutions, combining scalable dark fibre networks with advanced optical technologies to power Australia’s rapidly evolving digital economy.

Commercially in-service, the Helios cable system delivers a diverse & vital role in Australia’s connectivity landscape. Terminating in NEXTDC’s SC-1 facility in Maroochydore, the system provides critical connectivity to the Southeast Qld region, the existing JGA-S and future potential submarine cables. By offering strategic separation from the Sydney cable protection zone, where most cables are routed, Helios ensures greater network diversity and resilience.

“The expression of interest process allowed us to evaluate multiple opportunities for the future of Helios, and Titan Fibre Networks emerged as the clear way to ensure its continued success,” said Simon O’Leary. “Titan Fibre Networks will benefit from the expertise and broader capabilities across the Titan Telecom group of companies and will ensure Helios delivers on its unique features, and deliver reliable, high-performing connectivity with certainty.”

Under Titan Fibre Networks management, the Helios cable system will focus on enabling ultra-high bandwidth capacity, supporting growing bandwidth demands, and expanding opportunities for Indefeasible Rights of Use (IRU) partnerships.

“With Titan Fibre Networks now leading its future, there’s a significant opportunity to fully unlock Helios’ potential—expanding its capacity, enhancing network performance, and delivering vital dark fibre solutions to support Australia’s growing digital infrastructure,” said Matt van Hecke, Managing Director of Torus Networks, who began construction of the Helios cable system for Digital Infratech in 2021.

“This transition reinforces Digital Infratech’s commitment to optimising its portfolio while maintaining a vested interest in Helios’s future through its majority ownership in Titan Telecom Holdings,” added Allan Larkin, Managing Director at Digital Infratech.

Customers will experience uninterrupted service, as Titan Fibre Networks leverages its in-house expertise to maximise the system’s performance and reliability.

Titan Fibre Networks intends to share further plans for Helios in the New Year, including initiatives to enhance thesystem’s capacity and technological capabilities. This move represents a significant step in ensuring Helios continues to play a vital role in Australia’s connectivity landscape while driving long-term value for stakeholders.
